Q: Do you guarantee students a permit/license when they take your course?

A: Although we have a pass rate of over 98% we cannot guarantee your student a permit/license just by attending our course.

We serve several thousand students each year and because of our intensive review & training nearly all of them pass for a permit/license.

Six hours of behind-the-wheel training may not be enough experience for a student to be proficient enough to pass a road test. If you have no driving experience at all, you may not be ready for a driver's license. Some students do surprise us and pass the test with just our training time.

Brentwood Driver Training offers lessons at a reduced rate after completing a course if needed.

(These fees listed are subject to change without notice.)

Q: Can both teen drivers ed. courses provide my student with a permit/license?

A: The state will only allow us to test a student for a permit or driver’s license when they attend a 30 hour, supervised classroom course and have 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training.  Our classroom course meets this criteria, but the home video course does not. The home video course does provide valuable training and gives you a certificate for an insurance reduction.
Be sure to check with your insurance company before signing up for the home video course.

Q: How long is the certificate you provide valid for a permit/license?

A: 180 days (approx. 6 months). The date of issuance is listed on the front of the sealed envelope containing your certificate.

The certificate we provide for a permit/license is called a 3rd party testing certificate and is valid for exactly 180 days from the date it is presented to your student. If you lose the envelope containing your certificate or it expires, call the office to see if you may obtain a new one.

Q: Why can’t I open the envelope that was given to my student for a permit/license?

A: If you break the seal or open the envelope the representatives at the Driver Testing Station will not accept the certificate inside.

If you have already opened the envelope call Brentwood Driver Training’s main office immediately and follow the prompts on how to get a replacement.

The representatives at the Driver Testing Centers are trained not to accept any certificates if the envelope is open, because they are affraid information on the certificate inside may have been altered.

Q: How do I know what I can test for?

A: Students 15 years of age or older may test with us for their learner's permit. Students that already have a permit and will be 16 within 180 days are eligible to test with us for their driver’s license. Regardless of age all students that successfully complete our classroom course will receive a certificate for an insurance reduction.

  • Students over 15 and a half that already have a learner's permit may test with us for their driver's license.

Q: If my student fails the test can they retake it with you?

A: The state of Tennessee will not allow us to administer a re-test for any student.  Less than 2% of our students fail the test for their permit/license when they take our classroom course.

As much as we would like to be able to re-test your student if they fail the permit or license test, the Tennessee Department of Safety does not allow any driver’s ed school to re-test.

Any students that fail a test through our classroom course are welcome to seek additional help from us to prepare them for the test at the DMV.
